"Nothing Compares 2 You" is a successful song that was initially composed by Prince for "The Family", one of his projects.
It was supposed to be featured on the funk band's only album "The Family". Prince later used in on his 1993 album "The Hits/The B-Sides and The Hits 1" and also performed it through many of his subsequent live concerts.
However, the song rose to fame only after it was covered by the Irish singer Sinead O'Connor.
She recorded it throughout the year 1989 and released it one year later, on January 8, 1990.
The cover became very popular throughout the world and quickly conquered the charts in many countries.
It was produced by Sinead O'Connor and Nellee Hooper, while the lyrics from Prince's version were kept. The single was part of the Irish singer's second album, "I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got".
It was also part of the "Chrysalis" label and it has been released as 12" single, CD single as well as 7" single. The free Nothing Compares 2 You piano sheets were shortly available as well.
