"Can't Buy Me Love" is a song from the famous British band The Beatles.
It was mainly written by member Paul McCartney but it was attributed to Lennon–McCartney.
The band recorded the song on January 29th, 1964, at the Pathé Marconi Studios, while they were on a tour in France, and on February 25th and March 10th, the same year, at the EMI Studios.
The song did not feature the usual background harmonies, as they decided that this specific song didn't need to have them. George Harrison's guitar solo was modified at the EMI Studios, in London. Also, extra cymbals were added by Ringo Starr.
"Can't Buy Me Love" stands as the only song from The Beatles not to be recorded in the United Kingdom, although it was re-recorded and mastered in London. However, a previous song named "The Inner Light" was partly recorded in India. The B-Side for the single was "You Can't Do That", another successful track from the album. The song was produced by George Martin and it was part of the Capitol and Parlophone labels.
The personnel which worked on the production of the song include Ringo Starr, for the drums, George Harrison for the double-tracked twelve-string lead guitar and of course, Paul McCartney for vocals and bass and John Lennon for the acoustic rhythm guitar. Additional personnel include Norman Smith, for the hi-hat, Geoff Emerick and Ian MacDonald.
"Can't Buy Me Love" topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart and also broke some records: the entire top five included their songs, "Please Please Me", "She Loves You", "Twist and Shout", "I Want to Hold Your Hand" and the song that we present you here.
Also it was the third consecutive number one on the chart, which makes them the only artists to have ever achieved this; it stood as the biggest jump to number one and also, after a couple of weeks after entering the chart, the band already had 14 song on the charts, simultaneously.
The song was placed at number 289 on the list of "500 Greatest Songs of All Time", made by Rolling Stones magazine.
"Can't Buy Me Love" was certified gold by the RIAA, and it sold more than one million copies.
The single was also part of the albums "A Hard Day's Night", "A Collection of Beatles Oldies", "Reel Music", "Big Hits From England", "Hey Jude" and "20 Greatest Hits". The latter was the most recent release, made in 2000.
The song was present in the charts from Belgium, Germany, Norway and many others.
"Can't Buy Me Love" is one of the most successful songs of all time and stands as a permanent testimony of The Beatles's legendary career and the members' musical genius.
