I’m A Believer was released on November 21st, 1955 and it’s sung by The Monkees.
The song was written by Neil Diamond.
It is also featured on his album "September Morn", having additional lyrics and also on his 1967 album, "Just For You"’, as the shorter original version.
The single was initially offered to the group "The Fifth Estate" but eventually went to The Monkees.
"I’m A Believer" was produced by Jeff Barry and the personnel that contributed to the recording is formed of guitarist Al Gorgoni, Dick Romoff for the bass, Buddy Saltzman for the drums, Jeff Barry for tambourine and piano, Sal Ditroia for guitar, Artie Butler on organ and Micky Dolenz for the lead vocals.
The song is a mixture of the rock and pop rock genres and has a relatively small length of 2:47 minutes. It is part of the label Colgems Records.
Before being replaced due to licensing issues by "It’s The Same Old Song", "I’m A Believer" featured in the movie "Blood Simple", which was by directed by the Coen brothers, in 1984.
The single was a big success and topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart on December 31st, 1966, staying there for seven weeks.
This turned it into the last top hit of the year and later it became the best-selling song of the year 1967.
"I’m A Believer" received mainly positive feedback from music critics and topped many charts worldwide.
It became a number one in the United Kingdom, in 1967, and it was certified gold after only two days since its release. This happened because of an enormous advance order of over one million copies.
To this day, it sold more than ten million copies worldwide reaching top 40 of all time songs to have achieved this.
The single is number 48 on Billboard’s "All Time Top 100" list. It still receives demand having been voted by the listeners of a Dallas radio station, KLUV, in 2008, as the number one.
There have been made various versions of the song, including Robert Wyatt’s, in 1974, which was produced by Pink Floyd; Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer, in 1995, which became a hit after reaching number 3 on the UK Singles chart; Smash Mouth and Eddie Murphy, in 2001, which also featured in the film "Shrek".
Neil Diamond also recorded another version of the song, a much slower one, in 2010.
"I’m A Believer" stands for quality music and has reached people’s hearts, amongst the charts worldwide. It is still present in musical culture and it has already been acknowledged as one of the best songs of all time.
