"Meeting of the Spirits" is an instrumental song by the jazz fusion group The Mahavishnu Orchestra founded by guitarist and keyboardist John McLaughlin.
Being part of their first album, a strictly instrumental one, "The Inner Mounting Flame", released in 1971, the song featured a gathering of styles and musical instruments, ranging from both electric and acoustic pianos and synthesizers, to violins and acoustic and electric guitars.
Blending jazz-rock with what will be known as jazz-fusion, the group started with great success and this song is the first on the album released at C.B.S. Columbia.
We hope that you will enjoy the piano sheets for this wonderful group that pioneered a new genre and tried to bring the best out of music, a new style with numerous influences.
Being a mainly jazz song, "Meeting of the Spirits" is not overcrowded at all, leaving all the instruments air and space to be heard and distinguished well.
A lengthy song, yet it never gets repetitive, as the fast-paced guitar and violin solos are always different, adding to the integrity of the song.
Composed by the founder of the "Mahavishnu Orchestra", John McLaughlin, as well as the rest of the songs on the album, it is a great song to be tried on the piano and the addition of synthesizers in jazz should be seen as a great thing for the evolution of music, at that time it was not very common.
