"she initially planned on making the followup to Unbreakable Smile a pop album with only one gospel song. She has stated before that she had no interest in being labeled a Christian artist even though some of her inspirations were Rachael Lampa and Crystal Lewis"
She also stated that:
"I grew up on gospel music, I grew up singing it and a lot of what makes up gospel music is a huge influence in my own music. Growing up, I thought maybe one day I’ll do a gospel project." Kelly co-wrote half of the album's songs with gospel musician Kirk Franklin.
At the Grammy Awards ceremony in 2019, Tory Kelly’s album received two Grammys: Best Gospel Album and Best Gospel Performance and Song for Hiding Place’s album track "Never Alone".
The initial song was published in Les Très Riches Heures du duc de Berry (fol. 97v). Also, at the name suggests, it was the 42nd psalm of the Book of Psalms.
Initially, it was written in Hebrew.
