Something is a single by the English rock band the Beatles, used on their album from 1969 named "Abbey Road". It has also been released as a double A-sided single together with "Come Together".
It has been recorded in the May-August period in 1969 and released in October, first in US, then in the UK, by the label Apple. The writer was George Harrison and the producer George Martin.
A song that was acclaimed by Lennon and McCartney, they thought of it as the greatest song on the album and they were right, Something reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100 charts in the United States and also made it to the top five in the UK.
Written by Harrison while he was practicing on the piano, the song draws inspiration from James Taylor, as well as including the Ray Charles style. This blend gave birth to the awesome free Something piano sheet music.
Harrison’s wife, Pattie Boyd, also played a major role in his writing process; he wanted to write it for her. Harrison actually said that he wanted to express a sort of "universal love" in the song.
Being a great guitar song with a great harmonic vibe, Something is a sentimental love song with allusive lyrics.
Being released as the second song from the album, the song got certified Gold by the RIAA on October 27. Staying at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 charts for 7 days, it also charted at the top of the Canadian charts, as well as in Australia, New Zealand, West Germany and Singapore. On the Cash Box list, it reached second.
Something was certified double Platinum in 1999. Rolling Stone magazine praised the vocals and the drum work, as well as the catchiness of the guitar line. Saturday Review also praised it and NME called it "a real quality hunk of pop". It has been covered by more than 100 artists, including Frank Sinatra, Joe Cocker, Elvis Presley, Eric Clapton, Neil Diamond, just to name a few.
