"Danny’s Song" is a song written by Kenny Loggins, an American singer and songwriter.
Intended to be a present for Kenny’s brother, Danny, on the birth of his son, Colin, the song initially appeared on an album by Gator Creek and got featured one year later on the album "Sittin’ In", which was the debut album for Loggins and Messina, a folk rock group formed by Kenny Loggins and Jim Messina.

In 1971, the debut album "Sittin’ In" got released and, even if not very successful, without any major hits, "Danny’s Song" was the song that shined through and got lots of airplay on rock and adult contemporary radio stations, remaining in history as their best song.
Canadian Anne Murray, being a huge fan of the original song, decided to record a cover version for it in 1972, even creating an album with the song’s name.
This Canadian version of the song was a huge success, reaching Top 10 on three Billboard charts, number seven on the Pop charts, number ten on the country charts and rose to the top of the easy listening charts for two weeks.
Her version is more known throughout the world, that is why we attribute this song to her.
The song got Anne a Grammy Award nomination in 1974, for the category Best Female Pop Vocal performance, but ultimately lost. She received four Grammy awards during her career, so it was not a major setback, stating in an interview that
"Whenever I was singing that song, it was very meaningful."

Murray’s version is the most significant one though, reaching top of the Canadian Top Singles chart, number one on the Canadian Country Tracks chart and Canadian Adult Contemporary Tracks and even on the US Billboard Easy Listening chart, peaking at 7 on Billboard Hot 100.
