The song’s lyrics were written by American lyricist and librettist Tom Jones and music by American composer for musical theatre and illustrator Harvey Lester Schmidt for The Fantasticks musical.
Rita Gardner and Kenneth Nelson are the initial performers of "Soon It's Gonna Rain". The song was first performed in the 1960 musical The Fantasticks.
The song was also performed several other times like Kristin Chenoweth, American Idol finalist Anthony Fedorov and winner of the thirteenth season of The Amazing Race, Nick Spangler.
