"Yellow" is the title of a song by the English rock group called Coldplay.
Recorded during the month of March, year 2000, it was initially released on the 26th of June, 2000 and made available in several formats.
First of all, there has been a 7 inch vinyl, then a CD single and finally on an EP. It was included on their 2000 album titled "Parachutes" and released by the label Parlophone.
The band members were the ones that wrote the song, producing it as well together with Ken Nelson. With a length of 4 minutes and 29 seconds, "Yellow" was re-released in June 2001.
Being one of the first singles from their first studio album, this alternative rock song was the lead single for the United States release and the second one in the rest of the territories.
With lyrics expressing a feeling of unreciprocated love, it gained a high amount of popularity very fast and actually ranked well. In the United Kingdom, it climbed as high as the fourth place on the UK Singles Charts. "Yellow" may be one of Coldplay’s first songs ever, but it gained massive popularity, is a fan favorite and was covered by multiple artists.
The single was performed live for the first time on a TV show called "Later… with Jools Holland".
Later on, they also included it in their set list for the Glastonbury Festival, which furthered their European fame.
They played it again at the UIC Chicago Pavilion. Being famous worldwide, "Yellow" even got covered by a Chinese musician, named Zheng Jun.
It was also very known in Singapore, where Tanya Chua also created a cover of it. The Orchestra of the Royal Philharmonic also played the song. Bill Frisell and Petra Haden also created a version for themselves, which got included in their self-titled album. Tre Lux provided another cover in 2006, which got included on their album titled "A Strange Gathering".
"Yellow" by Coldplay managed to rank as high as the fifth place in Australia, ninth in Ireland and 14 in Poland. In United States, it also performed well, getting on the 48th rank on the US Billboard Hot 100, 22 on the Pop Songs charts and sixth on the Alternative Songs. On the Adult Pop Songs, it got as high as the eleventh place.
It got certified Platinum in Australia and Gold in Italy, United Kingdom and the United States.
