The song was initially released by Ben E. King, as part of his first studio album titled Young Boy Blues.

Ben King’s version is a cover itself of the Uno Dei Tanti, translated to English as One of Many. The music was written by Italian composer and pianist Carlo Donida Labati and lyrics by famous Giulio "Mogol" Rapetti, which is an Italian music lyricist.

Uno Dei Tanti was initially performed by Italian singer and actor Joe Sentieri in 1961, two years before King’s cover.
