"I Write Sins Not Tragedies" is the title of a song by the US rock group called Panic at the Disco.
It was used as single number two for their first album titled "A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out" from 2005. This song had a length of 3 minutes and 6 seconds and was released on CD and as a 7 inch vinyl format. Officially, it was released on the 27th of February, 2006 in the United Kingdom.
In the United States, it was released on the 27th of April, 2006. On the 30th of October, 2006 it was re-released in the United Kingdom. The labels that supported the release were Fueled by Ramen and Decaydance. "I Write Sins Not Tragedies" was written by Ryan Ross and produced by Matt Squire.
"I Write Sins Not Tragedies" opens up with a great cello riff played by Heather Stebbins. In the United States, it was a top 40 hit, reaching the seventh rank on the US Billboard Hot 100 charts. Once it was re-released in the United Kingdom on the 30th of October, 2006, it managed to chart moderately well.
It was played intensely on the radio stations from UK, yet it only reached the position number 25 on the UK Singles Charts. The original version included curse words which was edited out on the radio stations from the United States. The original version is not played so much, but some radio stations still have it.
A cover for "I Write Sins Not Tragedies" came by the band Fall Out Boy, cover which was included on their album called "Live in Phoenix". The video for "I Write Sins Not Tragedies" made it on the third position of the Best 2000’s Video list from Billboard. This music video features a wedding which has a circus, with great performances by the Lucent Dossier Vaudeville Cirque. In 2006, this music video managed to win the Video of the Year award at the MTV VMA’s.
"I Write Sins Not Tragedies" managed to chart moderately well worldwide. In Australia, it reached rank 12 on the ARIA charts. In Belgium, on the Ultratip Flanders charts, it reached twelfth position. In Germany, on the Media Control Charts, it reached only rank 66. In Netherlands, on the Dutch Top 40, it reached position 29.
In New Zealand, on the Recorded Music NZ charts, it reached the fifth place. It also managed to rank second on the Billboard Pop Songs charts.
