Paradise is the title of a single from rock band Coldplay’s album number five titled "Mylo Xyloto".
It was single number two from the album, released on September 12, 2011 as a digital download. It debuted that same day on BBC Radio 1. This electronic rock song was released by the Parlophone label. It was written by the four band members together with Brian Eno. The production team also included Eno, as well as Markus Dravs, Rik Simpson and Daniel Green.
There were two official versions for Paradise, an Album version and a Radio Edit. In addition, we have free Paradise piano sheets for both of them.
Paradise was made available for free on iTunes when pre-ordering the entire album. Once the album was released, it charted in the UK, getting on the 14th position on the UK Singles Chart.
After over 2 months, it reached the top of the charts. In the United Kingdom, it was a best-seller and actually the greatest commercial success of the UK rock industry, with sells of over 400.000 copies.
The song received a nomination at the Grammy Awards, for the Best Pop Duo / Group Performance category.
The song was performed live at the RE. In 2012, Paradise managed to win an MTV Video Music Award for Best Rock Video. It was also featured in a CBC video of the Stanley Cup, as well as in a trailer for film "Life of Pi".
Billboard praised the song for the synths and the heavy beats, calling it ecstatic. The Q magazine and the Rolling Stone magazine also had good reviews about Paradise. The song was performed live at the Austin City Limits Festival on the 15th of September, 2011. Then, it was performed by the band at the show "X Factor". They were guests on the "Saturday Night Live", where they also sang it. In October, it was also played on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show".
Two digital remixes appeared for Paradise, the first one by Fedde le Grand and the second by Tiesto. The single managed to chart very well worldwide as well.
In Australia, it reached the third position, same as in Belgium, Netherlands and New Zealand. In Brazil it charted on the second spot of the Hot Pop Songs. In Italy, Ireland and Israel it also occupied the second spot.
It topped the Norwegian and the Czech charts. In US, it also managed to get the first position on the Adult Alternative Songs and the Alternative Songs charts.
