"The Climb" was recorded by Miley Cyrus in 2008.
It was written by Jessi Alexander, during his way to Jon Mabe's home and it was intended to depict his personal fight in the industry. As he recalls, the writing of the song was like a "therapy" for him. Initially the song was named "It's The Climb" and it was composed in the third person.
The song was eventually featured in the film "Hannah Montana: The Movie", after the director, Peter Chelsom, gave Miley Cyrus the song, who also played the main character in the film.
Because of the country influences on the song it was the main soundtrack for the movie, as it represented the genre with which the singer became known to the audience in the beginnings of her career.
The song also features soft rock, pop rock and pop influences. The track has 80 beats per minute and it was written in E Major. The lyrics depict the struggles in the music industry and and also the rewards.
"The Climb" was released on March 12th, 2009 as part of the "Walt Disney" label and the soundtrack album "Hannah Montana: The Movie". The single was produced by John Shanks.
The music video, which was directed by Matthew Rolston, features the singer climbing a mountain and also scenes from the movie.
The first time when Miley Cyrus performed the song live was at the event "Kids Inaugural: We Are The Future", on January 19th, 2009. She also performed it during the concerts from the "Wonder World Tour" and "Gypsy Heart Tour".
