It reached almost 20 million views on YouTube in just 24 hours after its release, and one hundred views in six days.
Miley Cyrus performed the song live during the iHeartRadio Music Festival, which took place in Las Vegas, at the MTV Video Music Awards, at the television shows "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon" and "The Ellen DeGeneres Show".
She also sang it at the MTV Europe Music Awards, which took place in Amsterdam, at the American Music Awards and also in Times Square on "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve With Ryan Seacrest".
"Wrecking Ball" topped the Billboard Hot 100 and also the US Mainstream Top 40 chart in the United States. It was also present in the charts worldwide, including Germany, Austria, France, Ireland, Netherlands, Israel, Belgium, Italy, Mexico, Finland, Brazil and numerous many others.
"Wrecking Ball" has been a major commercial success, having sold more than four million copies in the United States alone, where it was certified four times platinum as well as in Australia. It was also certified three times platinum in Canada and Sweden, double platinum in Italy and Venezuela and also platinum and gold in many other countries.
