Fallin` is a single by Alicia Keys, being her first-ever single from her first-ever album titled "Songs in A Minor", released in 2001.
The writer as well as the producer has been Alicia herself and the label J Records released it in April on the radio and the music video on TV.
Being a song solely by Alicia Keys, it is about the complications that can occur in romantic relationships and it has been produced by sampling from James Brown’s song "It’s a Man’s World".
Having influences such as R&B and even gospel, Fallin` is thought to be Alicia’s signature song, getting received well by the critics, getting called "a massive hit" and a "gospel fervor". This is also seen in the free Fallin` piano sheet music.
The "deeper moments" from the song have also been appreciated, as well as praising the singer for her "natural blues register". USA Today said that Fallin` is "a bluesy ode to self-destructive love".
Fallin` ranked fourth on the Pazz & Jop poll from 2001 and it even got ranked 22nd by VH1 on the "100 Greatest Songs from the ‘00s" list. Even making it into Rolling Stones’ "Top 100 Songs of the 2000s decade", the single has also made the "500 Greatest Songs Since You Were Born" list by Blender.
Fallin` won at the 2002 Grammy Awards the following: Song of the Year, Best Female R&B Vocal Performance and Best R&B Song, also getting nominated for the Record of the Year. The single also made it to international charts, ranking in the top 10 in places such as Australia, Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, UK.
Topping the US charts for Billboard Hot 100, Mainstream Top 40 and Hot R&B / Hip-Hop Songs, Fallin` got certified Platinum in 7 countries and Gold in the US, as well as three other countries.
