"Fancy" is a song from Iggy Azalea's debut album, "The New Classic", which was released in 2014.
The song was initially leaked in December 2013 as "Leave It". The track is a duet between Azalea and the English singer Charli XcX. The electro hop song is played in G minor and it runs about 95 beats per minute.
It features hip hop chants, finger snaps and stabby synths. Charli XCX's vocal range goes up to C5.
"Fancy" was written by Charlotte Aitchison, John Shave, Amethyst Kelly, George Astasio, Kurtis McKenzie and Jason Pebworth.
It has a duration of 3:19 minutes and it's part of the "Island" label. The fourth single from "The New Classic", it was released on February 17th, 2014. The track was composed and produced by the production team "The Invisible Men".
"Fancy" received positive response from the music critics, whom stated that it is
"a match made in heaven that we never would've expected", "the duet we’ve all been waiting for", "a swag-drenched hip hop/pop delight" and "a hip hop-slash-pop party anthem in which the emcee lyrically displays her confidence".
It was rated three stars out of five by Rolling Stones Magazine, which also provided comments referring to Azalea who
"deftly handles the ratchet beat while Charli XCX's earworm hook holds it all down".
The music video for "Fancy" was released on March 4th, 2014, through YouTube. It was directed by Director X and shot in February, the same year. The inspiration for the video came from the movie "Clueless". The two singers met for the first time during the filming of the music video.
It received praise from the critics, who commented on the video:
"Azalea combined a quintessential 90s culture moment with her hip-hop vibes [...] this young Aussie brought it all together with some major beats and classic outfits—a sound and look that will be totally trending in the music world of 2014".
The successful music video has more than 100.000.000 views on YouTube and it received many nominations at the MTV Music Awards, including for "Best Female Video", "Video Of The Year", "Best Art Direction" and "Best Pop Video".
"Fancy" was covered by artists such as Kasabian, Jimmy Fallon, Egypt Dixon and many others.
Azalea and Charli XCX performed the song live on various occasions, including at "Jimmy Kimmel Live", "The Today Show", at the "mtvU Music Awards", in Austin and also on "Good Morning America".
"Fancy" has gathered high popularity and acclaim from the critics and the audience, becoming one of the best contemporary hits.
