"What Makes You Beautiful" is the name of a song by the British/Irish boy group One Direction.
The song was used as the lead debut single for their first album from 2011 called "Up All Night". It was recorded in 2011 at the Kinglet Studios, as well as at the Cosmos Studios in Sweden, Stockholm.
This three minutes and eighteen seconds track was produced by Yacoub and Falk for the labels Columbia Records and Syco.
The writing team included Rami Yacoub, SavanKotecha and Carl Falk.
"What Makes You Beautiful" was released officially on the eleventh of September 2011 as a digital download and then as a CD single. The B-side for it is the song "Na NaNa".
"What Makes You Beautiful" is a teen pop song with influences of power pop or pop rock, based a lot on the guitar riffs and chorus. The opening of the song is similar to that of a Broadway musical melody, one called "Summer Nights".

The director for the video was John Urbano. In 2012, the music video received three Video Music Awards from MTV. On YouTube, it received a large audience, making it to the top 20 of the most viewed videos ever.
"What Makes You Beautiful" was performed live on TV shows and then on tours. In the 2011-2012 period, it was played a lot on the Up All Night Tour, followed by the Take Me Home Tour in 2013 and the 2014 Where We Are Tour.
In 2015, it was also played on the "On the Road Again Tour".
