"Only Hope" is a song which was written by Jon Foreman and it was initially sung by the band Switchfoot.
It was part of their "New Way to Be Human" album, which was released in 1999. It has been described as a "song of prayer of devotion to God".
The song was produced by Charlie Peacock and it belongs to the indie rock genre. The single itself was released on March 11th, 1999 as part of the "re:think Records" label.
"Only Hope" was successfully covered by Mandy Moore, four years later. The American singer and actress has been active since 1993.
She signed up a recording contract with Epic Records in the early 90's. Soon after, she began recording her debut album and embarked on nationwide tours with the bands N Sync, and later, with Backstreet Boys. On August 17th, 1999 she released her first single, "Candy", which was a commercial success.
It sold more than 500 000 copies and it was certified gold by the RIAA and platinum in Australia. The debut album was titled "So Real" and it gained a platinum certification in the United States as it sold over one million copies.
The following year, she released the second album, "I Wanna Be with You", which also contained successful singles. It sold more than 500 000 copies and it was certified gold by the RIAA. In 2003 she started working on the last album on which she would collaborate with Epic records, "Coverage".
The new album, "Wild Hope" was released with EMI Music, in 2007. It was a commercial success and it received good feedback from the music critics whom stated that it is a song that expressed the singer's style.
The sixth album, "Amanda Leigh" was released in 2009. She started performing many of the songs live in order to promote the album.
"Only Hope" is part of her compilation album "The Best of Mandy Moore" and it was featured on the movie "A Walk To Remember". It was played in the scene in which the main characters fall in love with each other.
This is a successful song, not just because of the movie's popularity but also because of the singer's beautiful vocal performance and impressive talent.
