"The Prayer" is a single most known for the Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli version.
Written by a team made of David Foster, Alberto Testa, Carole Bayer Sager and Tony Renis, it was recorded in 1998. The first release date was on the first of March, 1999, as a pop classical song for 4 labels. Those labels were Atlantic Records, Epic Records, Columbia Records and Polygram.
The song has been featured as a single on two albums, one by Celine Dion and one by Bocelli. It is single number two for "These Are Special Times", a special Christmas holiday themed album by Dion. It was also the first single for "Sogno" by Andrea Bocelli.
It has also been included on the album "Quest for Camelot: Music from the Motion Picture" album. It was used as the theme for the movie from 1998 titled "Quest for Camelot". It even won a Golden Globe Award due to the movie. The award was for Best Original Song. Among other nominations, the song also received a Best Original Song one in 1999 at the Academy Awards.
Also, at the Grammy Awards in 2000, it was nominated for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals.
"The Prayer" was also included on two other of Dion’s albums. First, in 2000, it was made part of "The Collector’s Series, Volume One".
Then, in 2008, it was also featured on "My Love: Ultimate Essential Collection". A rendition of this song, called "A Mother’s Prayer", was also used on one of Dion’s albums, "Miracle" from 2004.
In 2008, in the absence of Andrea Bocelli, Dion recorded a version alongside Josh Groban. It was still a pop classical song, made available as a digital download. The first live performance of Groban alongside Dion was in year 1999, at the Grammy Awards. A special show on TV, on CBS, called "That’s Just the Woman in Me" featured the first performance by Groban and Dion. This version was made public in Canada and the US after 2 days.
The Josh Groban version debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 charts at rank 70. On the Pop 100 charts, it was number fifty, on the Hot Digital Tracks 29th and 32nd on the Hot Digital Songs chart. In Canada it was fairly successful as well, reaching rank 19 on the Canada Top Digital Downloads.
